Q & A with James W. Leibach '91

Lovin' the Daddy Gig

This Q&A interview is part of an ongoing series designed to help us get to know our brothers better.

Why did you join Kappa Alpha?
I joined because I felt welcome from the minute I went through rush. I knew KA was a fraternity of which I could be proud to be a member.

Tell us about your favorite memory of the fraternity.
Old South is one of my favorite memories. Parading through the streets of Athens on a horse named Fury is something I'll never forget. I also recall our pledge football game with SAE. Buffaloe's (Robert '92) last-minute touchdown seems like it just happened yesterday.

What kind of influence has the fraternity had on your life since graduation?
Now that I'm older and have a family of my own, I realize how important the values we were taught in the Varlet really are. Hopefully, I can instill some of these values in my children as they grow up.

With whom do you still stay in contact? Who would you most like to find?
I stay in touch with Jim Gash '91, Mike Ghioto, Scott Davis '92, Baxley Chew, David Woodbery, Bill Mathis '92 and Seth Sargent '92. I would like to contact Danny Jardine '92, John Davis '92 (alias JYD) and Marcus Simmons '91.

Tell us about your family: Have you married? Do you have children?
My wife, Diane, and I have been married since June 1996. We have a 21-month-old daughter named Camille and have twin boys due in November. Looks like we will have three in diapers.

Did you live in the house? If so, who were your roommates? Tell us about a memorable time with them.
I never lived in the house which is one of my bigger regrets. I think it would have allowed me to get to know some of the guys a little better.

What do you do for a living?
I'm a financial consultant with Morgan Keegan in Augusta. I have been in the business since 1994.

What affiliations do you currently have and/or public service do you participate in?
I am currently the president of the Richmond County Exchange Club. I also serve on the church council at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. That and being a father keeps me pretty busy.

What hobbies do you enjoy?
Golf, golf and golf. I have become addicted to the game; however, I'm still a 14 handicap.

What are your goals for the next few years?
Hopefully, the twins will be healthy and we will be raising three healthy children. My goal is to get to Athens a little more in the fall. It seems like it gets harder and harder to make it to the games. I would also like to rekindle some of the old friendships.
