Doug Hendrickson ’75: “One of the best decisions in my life!”Q: Why did you join KA Order in the first place?

A: I really had no close connections with anyone at the KA House, but the guys I met there early in the fall of my freshman year were welcoming, genuinely nice, smart and fun to be around. A high school friend from Darlington pledged when we received bids, but for some reason I wanted to wait. After a couple of weeks I realized that these were the type of guys that I wanted to be around at Georgia. It just felt right – and it definitely was! One of the best decisions in my life!

Q: What’s your favorite memory from your time in the chapter?

A: There are so many fantastic memories from Old South, Cowboy Ball, the Christmas Party (although we might have over done it a bit at one in particular!), Convivium, socials and road trips to just hanging around the house, but the jam sessions after the football games stand out as some of the best memories. I still love beach music. Also Miss Julia, Miss Belle and Coot!

Q: Do you still keep in touch with any of your brothers?

A: Yes, a few, but should try harder with more.

Q: Tell us about the company you are an owner of.

A: Limestone Associates is basically a Real Estate group that has been involved in development, construction, management, brokerage, storage and a mortgage company. I have also owned a number of other companies. I have been an owner and breeder of thoroughbred horses for 25 years and am appointed to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and serve on numerous other public and private boards.

Q: How did your time in KA Order help to prepare you for that role?

A: Getting to know a diverse and interesting bunch of people and learning to handle different situations was a huge help, but knowing that there will always be a group you can count on was the best gift. This, along with the reaffirmation, at a vulnerable time, of the core traditional southern values with which I was raised.

Q: What have you been up to since graduation?

A: Moved back to my small hometown in Kentucky to work in a local bank and married a wonderful, smart woman that I have known all my life. We have raised four daughters and a God-daughter and are about to become grandparents for the first time.

Q: What would you say is your biggest accomplishment?

A: Don’t really know about accomplishments but proudest of my Faith, Family and Friends!

Q: What advice would you give to future generations of KA Order members?

A: Enjoy your time at school. Work hard, play hard and cherish those friends while you have them. GO DAWGS!
