Gamma Alum Receives Regional Leadership Award

Community leaders from six area counties Tuesday recognized Georgia Department of Transportation board member and former Augusta commissioner Don Grantham with the Regional Leadership Award.

The award presentation capped off Leadership Augusta’s second annual State of the Region event, a partnership with chamber of commerce-affiliated leadership organizations from Aiken, Burke, Lincoln, Jefferson and McDuffie counties and the city of North Augusta.

Grantham, CEO of Augusta-based Forest Sales Corp., has served in various capacities and on several policy-making boards throughout the years, starting with an appointment to the Georgia Ports Authority 45 years ago by then-governor Jimmy Carter. Grantham was elected to a vacant term on the State Transportation Board in 2011, and was instrumental in helping the Augusta region become one of three in Georgia to pass the Transportation Investment Act, which is funding $728 million worth of road projects throughout the region.

“I am delighted to be a part of this area, to serve on the Georgia Department of Transportation and to make things better for those who are to come after us,” Grantham said. “It has been my pleasure to serve.”

Grantham, the District 12 representative on the State Transportation Board, in 2017 received the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Lester S. Moody Award of Excellence, its version of a lifetime achievement award.
